The Orchid Show: Cuba in Flower
February 27 - April 11
NY BOTANICAL GARDEN (take Metro North right to this event)

Experience the tropical beauty of Old Havana in bloom featuring thousands of orchids and native plants in Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. Exotic floral displays through architectural scenes transport visitors to the romantic intrigue of Cuba. Chocolate and Vanilla Adventures in the Everett Children's Adventure Garden give families an interactive look the vanilla orchid and the cacao tree.

Bethe Schwartz of the Jersey City Gardening Coalition sent this event:

Consider bird watching w/ a pr of binoculars 'round town, @ Newark's Branch Brook Park, & in the Bronx' New York Botanical Garden...the latter will provide a bird expert & National Audubon Society member guide. (Hopefully one day JC' Reservoir No. 3 will remain open past the end of Oct, 'cause there's great sighting to be had inside that watery gem.)

Speaking of NYBG, upcoming events include the following: - Now thru Feb 21, it's a World of Plants w/ more than an acre of greenery--from dry desert to rain forest, & everything in between, on display in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.

- Feb 27 - Apr 11, The Orchid Show* returns to the Conservatory; this time featuring orchids & plants native to Cuba. In addition, folks can spend an interactive day of Chocolate & Vanilla Adventures--w/ vanilla orchids & cacao trees--in the Everett Children's Adventure Garden. (Click on this listserv's Photos to view two albums of our tour of a last yr's Orchid Show featuring Brazilian flora.) - Now thru Apr 11, Larry Lederman's stunning 4-season tree & landscape photos are on exhibit in the Arthur & Janet Ross Gallery.

& why not take a look @ some of the phenom work by JCGC member Jim Legge by going to www.redbubble. com.

Reminder: will try to arrange an early Springtime day-trip to Morris County's Denville Community Gardens; visit www.denvillegardens .org for pics & info on their fab efforts.

BTW, our group's lil' library of gardening books, pamphlets, 'zines, & seed/plant/gardenin g catalogs will soon include a yr's subscription to HORTICULTURE...thanks to some Suffolk County gardening gals. You're always welcome to peruse & use anything on the shelf over here on Baldwin.

New York Botanical Garden's "Holiday Train Show" w/ ""Gingerbread Adventures" is now thru Jan 10th. Folks can spend a terrific day in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory looking @ the plant material replicas of NYC historic landmarks, including two new additions: the original magnificent 1910 Penn Station, & Brooks Brother's lovely flagship Madison Ave store. & families can enjoy loads of fun in the Everett Children's Adventure Garden smelling/touching/tasting the ingredients that go into making the gingerbread houses--as well as the gingerbread!--& learning how to make a field notebook of one's discoveries. & don't forget puppetmaster Ralph Lee's "Little Engine That Could." Details, including tkt info @ www.nybg.org.

The final weeks of the Kiku exhibition at the New York Botanical Garden are here. The brilliant fall colors won’t last forever and neither will the thousands of chrysanthemums (kiku) on view right now. These are the final two weeks to see the Conservatory Courtyards transformed into Japanese garden landscapes, featuring blazing Japanese maples, serene waterlily ponds, and, of course, our celebrated kiku. Contemporary displays in cones, columns, and spheres are showcased alongside time-honored, elaborate growing styles.
You can take the Harlem Division Metro North Train from Grand Central. It stops right outside the Garden.

Next, get ready for the annual Holiday Train show. If you are plannig visiting during the Christmas Holiday Week, get tickets soon. They sell out every year.
